Yesterday (March 11, 2025), the Trump administration announced 1) that it would resume the delivery of weapons and intelligence to Ukraine 2) based on Ukraine agreeing to a thirty-day ceasefire with Russia.
Beautifully written, as expected. And right on the money. Trump doubling down on the same insane crap as grandpa Biden is spectacularly idiotic. Don't expect too much from Rubio though, he is just Trump's 🐕, nothing more than that...
I agree with you in that I really hope that the war can be ended.
The political problem for Mr. Putin is that 100,000 Russian youth have perished in the war and he needs to show something for it.
Further, he would be viewed as a fool if he fell for US duplicity again. I just don’t see Russia accepting a cease fire, no matter how the Americans frame it.
Jeff Sachs thinks (hopes) that there is more to the offer than has been stated so far. But he doesn’t know that that is the case.
I have my doubts that the war can be ended at this time. Putin knows very well and has spoken about the duplicity of the US. I don’t think he will fall for a ceasefire. (I have not been following Ukraine/Russia too much in the last week because of the detainment of Mahmoud Khalil.). Must catch up…European leaders have become completely deranged.
Thanks for the comment Nancy. I find it interesting that Trump’s people are now repeating Biden administration talking points (aka lies) regarding the conflict. They could be making arguments from history to end it, but they’re instead going all CNN on us. As grim as this is for Russia and the Ukrainians, it’s doubly grim for the US. The MIC controls the West. We are rotting from the inside out.
Yes, I believe the US and NATO elite have far too much invested in their decades of Russo-phobic foreign policy to ever admit they provoked this tragic war. That said, it is astonishing that the people of Ukraine have allowed themselves to be slaughtered at the NATO altar, instead of attempting to get along with their powerful neighbor. Can anyone image the Canadians taking the part of Russian proxy warriors against the US?
Thanks Chris. I have a bit more sympathy for the people of Ukraine. The proportion of Ukrainians who supported the American coup and what followed was surprisingly small from the polls I’ve seen.
I made the point about Zelensky and crew killing (Russian speaking) Ukrainians to illustrate that the US claim of ‘supporting Ukraine’ with the war is based on the view of the Banderite Right, and not Ukraine as it was constituted before the CIA organized it to ethnically cleanse the Russian speakers.
What I can’t get past is that the American Left chose to side with the CIA and Ukraine’s Banderite Right instead of demanding a rapid end to the war. Live and learn.

The Brits, and I think they are behind this obvious subterfuge, hope that China and India put enough pressure on Putin to give it one last try.
The rather depressing thought I have is that they might have called it right.

American Left? No such thing. None.
I couldn’t agree more Youlian.
